If you’re a wedding professional or creative business owner, you’ve probably wondered, “How often should I update my website?” The answer is more often than most people think.
At a minimum, your website should be reviewed and updated every year to ensure your information, images, offers, and messaging are still accurate. However, the frequency of updates really depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. Are you simply making sure potential clients have the most up-to-date information? Are you trying to improve your visibility on Google? Are you changing your services or attracting a new type of client?
Your website is not something you create once and forget about. It’s one of the most important marketing tools in your business, and like any marketing tool, it needs regular attention to continue working for you.
One of the biggest misconceptions I see among wedding and creative business owners is that once their website is designed, the work is finished. But a website is not a one-and-done project.
Your business evolves. Your services change. Your ideal clients shift. Your portfolio grows. Your pricing gets updated. Your brand becomes more refined.
Your website should reflect those changes.
When I started updating my own website regularly, I noticed a difference in my website traffic and how people interacted with my site. More people were finding my content, exploring different pages, and spending more time learning about my services.
A website that is regularly updated gives your audience confidence that your business is active and current.
It also helps search engines understand that your website is relevant and worth showing to people searching for your services.

The short answer: it depends on what you’re updating.
Some changes should happen more frequently, while others only need to happen once a year.
Every three months, I recommend taking time to review the parts of your website that change most often.
This can include:
For wedding professionals especially, your portfolio plays a huge role in helping potential clients decide if they can envision working with you. If your website still showcases work from years ago but your current style has evolved, there is a disconnect between your online presence and the experience clients will actually receive.
At least once a year, you should complete a deeper review of your website.
This is when I recommend looking at:
This is also a great time to ask yourself:
“Is my website still attracting the type of clients I want to work with?”
Your website should grow alongside your business. If you’re booking luxury weddings now but your website still speaks to budget-conscious clients, it’s time to make adjustments.
Sometimes it’s obvious that a website needs attention. Other times, business owners don’t realize there’s a problem because they see their website every day.
Here are some signs your website may need an update:

Your website is often the first impression potential clients have of your business. If your portfolio doesn’t reflect your current style, experience, or the type of work you want to book, it’s time for a refresh.
Nothing creates confusion faster than outdated pricing or offers.
If someone visits your website and sees information that is no longer accurate, it can create hesitation and make the inquiry process more difficult.
This is one of the biggest things I notice when reviewing websites.
If I look at someone’s social media and see that their business, style, services, and branding have completely changed, but their website still reflects where they were several years ago, there is a disconnect.
Your website and social media should feel like they belong to the same brand.
One mistake business owners make is assuming that if their website isn’t performing well, they need to completely start over.
That’s not always the case.
I recently worked with a wedding photographer who was unsure whether she needed a full website redesign or just an update. After reviewing her website, I realized the structure and layout were actually working well. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the design.
The problem was that her website no longer represented her business.
She needed updated images, refreshed offerings, and SEO improvements because she wasn’t being found online.
Instead of investing in a complete redesign, the focus needed to be on strategic updates that would improve her visibility and better communicate her current brand.
Sometimes your website doesn’t need to be rebuilt. It simply needs to be brought back to life.

One of the biggest reasons regular website updates matter is because they support your SEO strategy.
When you update your website with fresh content, new blog posts, updated pages, and relevant information, you’re signalling to search engines that your website is active and relevant.
SEO is not something you set up once and forget about.
Search engines look at many factors when deciding which websites to show, and regularly maintaining your website is part of building long-term visibility.
Some SEO-focused updates you can make include:
The biggest challenge I see is that many business owners don’t know how to properly update their websites.
They try to make changes themselves but accidentally break the formatting, change the design structure, or create inconsistent layouts.
This often happens when updating things like headings, spacing, fonts, or website copy.
That’s why part of my website design process includes teaching clients how to make simple updates themselves. At the end of a website project, I provide a tutorial showing them how to make changes like swapping out images, updating pricing, and making small adjustments.
I truly believe you shouldn’t have to pay thousands of dollars every time you need to make a basic website update.
I’ve heard so many stories from business owners who hired large agencies to design their websites but then couldn’t make simple changes without paying additional fees or waiting weeks to hear back from someone.
Your website should be a tool that empowers you, not something you feel trapped by.
If you only have one hour every few months to focus on your website, prioritize the updates that will have the biggest impact.
I would recommend:
Small, consistent updates can make a much bigger difference than waiting years and trying to overhaul everything at once.
Your website is one of the hardest-working parts of your marketing strategy. It helps potential clients understand who you are, what you offer, and why they should choose you.
But it can only do that if it accurately represents your business.
Whether you’re updating photos, refreshing your services, improving SEO, or adding new content, regular maintenance helps your website continue working for you.
A beautiful website is important, but a website that stays current, attracts the right clients, and supports your business goals is what creates long-term results.
